Loughborough Wellbeing Centre
The Loughborough Wellbeing Centre CIO has been delivering Wellbeing Cafés, groups and activities for adults who experience mental health problems in the Charnwood area since October 2015.
Our centre provides them with a safe, supportive and welcoming place to go to for the benefit of their mental health and wellbeing. We aim to support people’s recovery and resilience to mental health issues and encourage a peer support network that will enable them to feel part of the community again.
Our sessions offer a welcoming drop-in with fun activities which is open to adults aged 18 and over. There is no referral process needed to join our groups; they are free to attend for all.
In addition to our own sessions we also host other local services, charities and small groups that run on a weekly or monthly basis supporting people's mental health in a variety of ways. In October 2025, coinciding with our 10th year of delivering services, we were thrilled to win the award of "County Charity of the Year" at VAL Awards in Leicester.
A wonderful achievement and something that's testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, trustees and volunteers, as well as all of the members of our community who have found support from the Wellbeing Centre over the years: People who have moved from crisis to recovery and those who's mental health is daily benefitting from attending our groups and activities.

"Loughborough Wellbeing Centre, a leading mental health charity supporting veterans and their families, has been selected as part of the second wave of VALOUR-recognised centres, an initiative funded by the Office for Veterans' Affairs (OVA) within the Ministry of Defence.
The charity has been awarded £499,991.39 in development funding over three years to expand its support services for veterans, serving personnel and their families across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland (LLR). The funding will strengthen and widen the organisation's existing Hub and Spoke model, improving access to local, in-person support throughout the region.
VALOUR is a £50 million UK-wide support system designed to help veterans and their families access the right support at the right time. It is a key commitment within the UK Government's Veterans Strategy and, over time, will expand to include the wider Armed Forces community. The programme will also be supported by the extended legal duty under the Armed Forces Covenant.
The VALOUR-Recognised Centre (VRC) Development Fund supports the establishment of centres that improve access to face-to-face advice, guidance and support. The programme is funded by the Office for Veterans' Affairs and administered by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust (AFCFT).
The Loughborough Wellbeing Centre VALOUR-Recognised Centre will provide a single, trusted, veteran-led point of access for the Armed Forces community across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Building on four years of successful delivery through the Veterans Wellbeing Hub and the recently established Armed Forces Navigation Hub, the centre will offer coordinated triage, early intervention, warm handovers, specialist referral pathways and ongoing support for veterans, serving personnel, families and carers.
Helen Carter, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Loughborough Wellbeing Centre, and a veteran herself, said:
"We are delighted to have been awarded this development funding and selected as a VALOUR-Recognised Centre for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
"This significant investment will enable us to build upon and expand our support for veterans and their families facing a wide range of challenges, including mental and physical health issues, employment, housing, financial hardship and social isolation.
"We are also excited to extend our services to support serving personnel and their families. Across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland there are more than 30,000 veterans, around 2,500 serving personnel, and an estimated 40,000 family members. This funding will help ensure that support is available locally through a 'no wrong door' approach, making it easier for individuals and families to access the help they need.
"Working alongside a wide range of partners, including Veterans Services, the Department for Work and Pensions Armed Forces Champions, Op COURAGE, military charities and regimental associations, we provide support in a welcoming and accessible environment in the heart of Loughborough.
"Over the coming years, we will also expand our outreach programme beyond our existing locations in Oakham, Blaby and Coalville into additional communities, including Leicester, Hinckley, Melton Mowbray and Market Harborough. We will continue to listen to veterans and their families, identify emerging needs and ensure support is delivered in places that are accessible, welcoming and close to home."
